ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Legion and Friends,

During the past night, James Willoughby, Sr crossed the river from this world to an eternal presence with Jesus Christ, in Whom he put his faith and trust for his salvation. Jimmy is no longer suffering the effects of the cancer that has plagued him for the past year. As soon as arrangements are complete with Moore Funeral Home, 12 S. Second Street, Denton, MD 21629, I will forward them on to you. You can also check their webpage at http://www.moorefuneralhomepa.com/obits.html

J. Dale Foxwell, Major

Senior Aide to the Commander

1st Legion, Provisional Army of the Confederate States

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Legion and Friends,

As we strive diligently to commemorate the struggles of both the military and civilian personnel that have gone before us during the challenges of the 1860's, we have the luxury of fighting bloodless battles on fields hallowed by their courage, determination and love of country, regardless of the uniform they wore. One of the results of these "bloodless battles" is that too often we lose sight of our own mortality and the fact that we are, as James wrote, "even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away".

Last Thursday night the reality of life, and death, was poignantly brought to the forefront as General Rick Dussinger, Commanding general of the USV passed away after suffering a heart attack. The Legion has lost a friend and comrade in arms who had been working closely with us for several upcoming engagements, including the 150th Anniversary of Sharpsburg/Antietam, at which he would have been the overall Federal Commander.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the Dussinger family and all the membership of the USV as they come to terms with this reality and seek directions to both honor their commander and move forward with the programs he so eagerly anticipated.

Information on the memorial service may be found at the following website: http://lancasteronline.com/obituaries/local/648119_Rickie-A--Dussinger.html

It is with great sadness that we report to you that John & Rebecca will not be attending the New Market event with us as planned. We received a call yesterday that their son was killed in an automobile accident. Please remember them in your thoughts and prayers. Here is their address for cards and letters:

Rebecca stated they had to travel to Alabama so we have not gotten any other word on arrangements or plans of the family.

Wes & Deb

150th Antietam/Sharpsburg

We had a site walk through this past Saturday. We have a huge battlefield, almost 200 acres. We also laid out the camps for all branches. The Cavalry has a nice area next to the woods with shade and plenty of room. The Artillery has good, flat ground with direct access to roads. The Infantry has a nice field that is dotted with several bunches of trees for shade and good access roads all around. All branches will be close to reenactor parking and not far from the sutlers. There will also be a shuttle for $1 that will take you from the reenactment site to the NPS living history site and the downtown Sharpsburg festival. This is really shaping up to be the event of the year.

Cross Keys and Gettysburg

Members and Friends of the Legion,

The Colonels and I met this past Saturday at the 150th Antietam/Sharpsburg planning meeting. We discussed our maximum effort events for 2012 and unanimously agreed to add Cross Keys at Cedar Creek to the list. We felt it was important to support event other than the ones that we were commanding. We also felt it was important to show some support to another of the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation’s events since they have given us command of the Cedar Creek Reenactment. I encourage each and every one of you to join me there and make the Cross Keys event a maximum effort event for PACS.

I am also making a call for volunteers for Gettysburg. With the big 150th coming up next year, it is important to make a showing this year. I will be there and I am asking that the Legion give me 100 rifles to lead into battle this year! Please give it some serious thought and join me there in July.

As always, please feel free to contact me with and questions or concerns. Remember, our strength is in our unity!

I respectfully remain,

Brian Gesuero

Captain Bruce Yealy, Chief Surgeon

PACS wants to welcome Captain Bruce Yealy to staff as our Chief Surgeon.

Bruce is a Career Firefighter/Paramedic at BWI FRD, Career Paramedic at Hanover Hospital and

a Nationally Registered Paramedic. He comes to us with years of experience in emergency care

and several years as a reenactor. Please welcome him to our family when you see him in the field!

Winter Meeting

Members and Friends of the Legion,

I think we all can agree that the 14th Annual Winter Meeting was a huge success. With over 70 people in attendance, it was standing room only. The yard sale worked out great and will be back next year. The evening social hour was a great time as well. Many, many thanks to everyone that helped to make this weekend fun and productive. 2012 will be the Legion’s year!! Remember, We are the Legion!!

I respectfully remain,

Brian Gesuero

150th Antietam

Officers, Members and Friends of the Legion,

It is with great pride that I announce to you that the 1st Legion, Provisional Army of the Confederate States has been given command of the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg on September 14th through 16th, 2012. I have just come from a planning meeting with the event organizers and feel that we have been given an incredible opportunity. I can assure you that I will work tirelessly and strive to make this a quality event but I will need the help of the entire Legion. I know that together we will rise to the occasion and show the reenacting community the strength and unity of PACS.

I will have more details in the coming weeks and will have a full report for everyone at the Winter Meeting in January. The event website will be up soon. The address is http://www.150thantietamreenactment.com/ . They are also updating the registration forms and extending the $10 preregistration fee till January 31, 2012. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I respectfully remain,

Brian Gesuero
